Third Round Table on the Women in the First World War

28.06.2014 13:00

Third Round Table on the program „Share your knowledge – become a mentor 2013/2014“on the topic "Women in the First World War" will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014. at 1.00 pm in Hotel Prag (Kraljica Natalija 27).

This year marks the 100 anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. The role of women in the Great War is not visible and not enough attention is given to the efforts and sacrifices of women, not only in front but also in the hinterlands. Women held various positions during World War I: women as fighters, women as a member of medical mission, a woman at home in the city, and rural women.

Conditions of war, and the fact that male labor force goes to the front disruptive until then strictly defined gender roles and distort the distribution of male and female jobs.

That's why all these women deserve a prominent place in history, and to speak about their role.

The main goal of the program is to bring together professional women leaders from different professions to share their knowledge and experience with young women starting their careers with similar interests and a desire to be successful in their fields. This will help to create opportunities for these women to improve their career path in order to achieve positive change and to set a sound basis for future long-term cooperation. Model of mentoring has been widely promoted internationally and successfully implemented in several countries. Taking into account our environment and social conditions, the model has been slightly adapted to the target group in the Republic of Serbia.

The "Share Your Knowledge - Become a Mentor 2013/2014" program is organized for the fourth year in a row by European Movement in Serbia with the cooperation and support of the Embassy of the United States and Erste Bank and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE ). The goal of this program is the economic and professional empowerment of women in Serbian society through exchange of experiences and knowledge between professional women leaders from different professions (business, public and civil sector) and younger women with similar interests and a desire to be successful in their fields. This will help create opportunities for these women to improve their career path in order to achieve positive change and to set a sound basis for future long-term cooperation.
