EMinS ASKS: THE FUTURE OF THE EU AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION

Given the recent developments in the EU and the bitter taste in the mouth of those that met to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome we have taken the opportunity to ask, a prolific expert, Dr. Tatiana Martins Pedro Do Coutto from the Economics Department of the University of Warwick her opinion regarding the future of the EU and the prospect of further integration and enlargement.

WOMEN STILL HIT THE GLASS CEILING

Debate on the topic "Where is Gender Equality in Serbia today" was organized on Saturday in Valjevo within the program "Share your knowledge". Mentoring Walk was organized before the debate, with the occasion of International Women's Day, which is part of the Global Mentoring Walk coordinated by the organization Vital Voices. This year there was 130 walks held in 62 countries.

Svetlana Stefanović, project manager in EMinS, opened the debate, stressing the importance of celebreting of the International Women's Day as a symbol of the struggle of women for their rights throughout history. "Mentoring Walk raises awareness of how important is a woman's voice, and how important it is to work together on a professional and personal empowerment of young women and to strengthen their position in society, and that the program" Share Your Knowledge' contributes for seven years. But we must not forget the women who have fought to enjoy the rights that we have" said Svetlana.

GREEN POLICY FOR SUSTAINABLE SOCIETY AND PRODUCTION

The Youth forum of the European Movement in Serbia has organised in conjunction with the EU info centre a public debate on the topic of “Young, Green, but Experienced: Green Practices in Serbia”. Over 60 young and interested people had the opportunity to hear the opinions and ask questions to the speakers; Marko Vujić, assistant at the Faculty of Political Science, Žaklina Živković from the Group for analysis and creation of public policy and Dušica Trnavac Bogdanović from the organisation of Young explorers of Serbia. The moderator of the debate was a member of the Youth forum, Anastasija Pejović. The assembly was concluded with a message of the necessity of additional involvement of the youth in green initiatives and activities to raise awareness regarding the importance of green practices in Serbia.

The power of digital media lies in the possibility of fast and easy mobilization of the online community for good ideas and positive action. In this sense, digital marketing can initiate positive change gender stereotypes and distorted images of women.

When it ended with Donald Trump’s victory, 2016 presented less than a clean break with the past, but rather a venture into the unknown. As the old order has been weakened, one thing became certain: no more “business as usual”.

Leaders and movements that have capitalized on popular discontent are intent on offering a new worldview, which may appeal to many. A lot seems to be going their way: inequality has increased since 2008; democracy remains in retreat; many crises unsolved.

PREPARATORY MEETING MARKED THE BEGININING OF THE NEW CYCLE OF SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE PROGRAM

On Saturday, January 28, a preparatory meeting for the seventh generation of mentees on the program "Share your knowledge " was held. The aim of the meeting was to present the activities of the program and that the participants can learn about the participation in the program and the concept of mentoring. The meeting was an opportunity for mentees to know each other, and to set their own goals and hear the impressions and experiences from the program alumnas. 

On behalf of partner organizations that are organizing the program, a new generation of mentees welcomed Svetlana Stefanović, Program Manager of the European Movement in Serbia, Erika Kuenne, Cultural Attaché at the US Embassy in Serbia and Dragana Ivetić Radić  from the OSCE Mission in Serbia.

WB6 ADVOCACY STRATEGY PRESENTED IN SARAJEVO

On 23 January 2017 in Sarajevo, Foreign Policy Initiative BH organized the presentation of Guidelines for Advocacy Strategy for the EU integration of the Western Balkans. The project is supported by the Visegrad Group and German Embassy in Belgrade. Six think tank organizations from the Western Balkans region and countries of the Visegrad group: Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary ans Slovakia worked on drafting of the Strategy.

NEW GENERATION OF MENTEES SELECTED

After the interviews jury have choosen the final list of mentees of the program "Share Your Knowledge Become a Mentor 2016/2017".

The jury consisting of representatives of the organizers (U. S. Embassy in Belgrade, Erste Bank, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Movement in Serbia) had a very difficult task, taking into account the great interest and exceptional quality of all candidates. 

HOW WE COMMUNICATE THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATIONS IN SERBIA?

On Tuesday, December 22, 2016 the last public debate was held at the Center for Professional Development within the project "I have a right to know about EU", conducted by Network of European Movement in Serbia, with the support of Government of Federal Republic of Germany. Public debate called "What we know and what we think we know about EU?" gathered participants from public sector of city administration Kikinda, civil society organizations, young people from middle and high schools, as well as citizens of Kikinda.

Based on the competition criteria and among very good candidates of young women at the beginning of their career, eager to further learn and improve their skills, the jury has shortlisted candidates who will be invited for an interview.
